Position Overview Applications will be accepted from all persons interested. The position is located in the HAS Maintenance/General Maintenance Services Business Unit, Hobby Airport. Workdays and hours are varied, including shift work with rotation, weekends, and holidays, subject to change. Purpose of the Division Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance delivers self‑performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports. Purpose of the Position The Electrician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, managing, and upgrading existing electromechanical systems to ensure economical and safe distribution of electricity. Duties include journeyman level electrical work in terminal and support buildings, managing lighting systems, responding to emergency electrical failures, and operating across all HAS facilities (IAH, HOU, and EFD). Responsibilities Interpret blueprints, sketches, schematics, and design specifications. Apply National Electrical Codes and use electrical tools, meters, and materials in a commercial setting. Work with high voltage (15 kV), primary distribution, emergency generators, UPS, PLC, and control systems. Troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade electromechanical/electrical installations. Research and analyze causes of failures; repair, replace, and install equipment to maximize function. Provide preventive maintenance to keep operations safe and clean. Prepare and update records, logs, and reports related to performed work. Respond to emergency electrical failures and shutdowns. Organize, schedule, and monitor work assignments. Research technical product specifications. Compare and evaluate product prices from vendors to determine most competitive bids. Assist in inventory control management of electrical parts and components. Work Environment The position involves significant physical exertion including climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects up to 80 pounds, and maintaining awkward positions for extended periods. Exposure to extreme temperatures, air pollution, noise, chemical gases, and potential contagions is possible. Minimum Requirements Education – High School diploma or GED. Experience – No journeyman level experience required. Certification/License – Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License. Valid Texas driver’s license required; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required. Preferences Journeyman Electrician License for 5+ years. Knowledge of airfield lighting materials and applications. Valid CDL. Veteran status preferred per Executive Order 1‑6. General Information Selection/Skills Tests – Application review and/or interview; skills assessment test may be administered. Safety – Position is subject to random drug testing. Promotional positions require assignment drug testing. Pay Grade – 18. Salary – Determined by qualifications and comparable employee rates.
