About Elkhart Hospital

What You'll Do
As a Patient Transporter, you'll report to the Coordinator, Manager, and/or Director. You will transport patients safely between all patient care areas, using appropriate body mechanics. You'll assist in expediting the delivery of needed supplies.
Outpatient Surgery Patient Transporter Job Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients using proper body mechanics
- Prepare carts/beds for post-op transfers
- Deliver specimens to lab promptly
- Assist families to designated areas
- Support nursing staff with patient lifting and positioning
- Assist with pre-op prep (shaves, CHG wipes) per OR guidelines
- Perform terminal cleaning of OPS cubicles and carts
- Transport lab specimens and blood products; document per protocol
- Monitor and maintain nourishment refrigerator and needle boxes
- Obtain EKGs, vital signs, weights, and blood glucose samples
- Discontinue IVs as directed
- Follow infection prevention protocols and assist with procedures
- Deliver supplies from tote system and retrieve items from CPD/Pharmacy
- Order and restock inventory per par levels
- Maintain linen, warmers, and supply carts
- Report equipment issues and assist with OPS cubicle setup
- Attend at least 50% of unit meetings and stay informed
- Assist with orientation of new staff
- Complete annual skills verification
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
What You Bring
You bring a basic knowledge of abbreviations and medical terminology and a working knowledge of equipment operation and safe use. You maintain proper body mechanics to prevent injuries. The Patient Transporter has knowledge of Hospital Policies and Procedures and has strict adherence to aseptic techniques and practices.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
- Must maintain current CPR certification.
- Patient care experience in acute facility or free-standing ambulatory surgery center is preferred.
